Location, location, location?

It used to be that location was the most important thing for a business. With the advances in technology and the ease of communication and data dispersement location is slipping in priority for many businesses.

In fact, if your business isn’t service oriented AND convenience driven then quality and market segment targeting are the new “location”. For instance, a reasonably priced gas station in the middle of no-where is not going to do as well as the usually overpriced gas station by a neighborhood or business district. I mean, what’s 25 cents a gallon difference in price when you are running on fumes? The flip side of the coin is buying a computer. If you have certain specifications and programs you want loaded on it and you don’t need it today, why does it matter if you order from the company next door rather than the company across the country? That decision is made, not on location, but on quality and whether or not their product meets your expectations.

So then what should you take from this? If you sell a product that is not service AND convenience driven then you have to advertise. Where better than the internet? It is a billboard that can be seen from several countries away. If you don’t have a website then get one. If you have one and it’s not ranked very high check your content and get linked.
